XERODERMA PIGMENTOSUM : A CHALLENGE IN DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT AT Dr. M. DJAMIL HOSPITAL PADANG

Abstract Purpose: To describe diagnosis and treatment of xeroderma pigmentosum cases at Department of Ophthalmology in Dr.M.Djamil Hospital Padang Method: A retrospective descriptive study was done based on medical record of patients with xeroderma pigmentosum at Dr.M.Djamil Hospital Padang during 2002 until 2008 Results: There were 11 patients with diagnosis of xeroderma pigmentosum visited the ophthalmology department of Dr.M.Djamil Hospital Padang. There were 11 patients, consist of 10 male ( 90,9 %) and 1 female ( 9,09 %). There were 2 patients with oculocutaneus of basal cell carcinoma (18,1 %) and 6 patients with squamous cell carcinoma ( 54,5 %). Surgical wide exicision was done to 6 patients and exenteration was done to 2 patients. A history of consanguity was present in 4 patients Conclusion: There were 8 patients ( 72,7 %) with malignant eyelid binocular manifestasion and early detection was important to prevent spreading of tumors
